Academic Project: To create your own Private Island
Concept: Broken Compass Island is an Adventure Island.
- The Activities, The Stay and The Food are all parts of the Adventure.
- To create the feeling of an adventure you’ll never forget, so it uses polaroid photographs
to document what the trip would be like
-It also uses and lot of wood that looks hand painted. The Island is very natural and craft
so the hand painted wood goes with the concept
-The campaign also uses tan torn paper to look like old parchment paper. It gives the feeling
of a treasure map, and the Island is a hidden treasure.
The Story:
In the 1920’s and 1930’s Broken Compass Island was a prominent lobstering village off the coast of Maine. The fishermen were incredibly prosperous and the village was growing. One afternoon during a horrible storm in the middle of September, the Captain took his boat out last minute to check and secure the traps that were letting this community thrive. The storm continued through the night and terrorized the island. All the residents had to stay inside it was so threatening. The Captain’s wife wondered where her husband was, but could not venture outside or contact anyone else until the storm let up. In the morning the Captain’s ship was found docked, but the Captain had disappeared. There were rumors of murder and his wife was incredibly suspicious and distraught. Three days later her body was found on the rocks below the lighthouse. She had supposedly thrown herself from the lighthouse, longing for her husband to return. Within days the Island was in trouble, the traps were not working and mysterious events kept happening. People claimed to see her ghost walking the shore and her husbands boat haunting the seas. The elaborate stories and horrible rumors destroyed the Island. The villagers deserted the island and rumors of the haunting spread through the mainland. The island remained empty and as the stories faded away the island was almost forgotten. Today it has been rebuilt and thrives again, but their ghosts and the stories still haunt the island.
